About us...

Based in Alba county (more precisely in the town of Cugir), the 10 members of this group represent the much refined outcome of many generations of musicians belonging to the ethnic minoriy of the "romani". Their passion for music, for the values of their own ethnic group but also of the country in which they live are handed down from father to son.

Very active on the Balkanic artistic scene, "Fanfara Transilvania" managed to enrich the artistic heritage of the gipsy music which was passed down to them, by adding a professional touch to it: all the members of the group possess an excellent musical education, acquired both with local music teachers and with other fellow-musicians. Consequently, they are consummate professional musicians who compose and prepare their songs by sheet music, but, nevertheless, manage to maintain unchanged the ethnic "core" of their music. Also they are relatives with each other, brothers and cousins Having a wide repertoire which includes Romanian "folklore" from all over the country, but also personal and highly original interpretations of some of the music themes which are recurrent in the Balkans and present in the repertoire of Goran Bregovic and Boban Markovic, "Fanfara Transilvania" ( also known as "Galan's Fanfare") is made up of fine musicians who fill their audiences' souls with happiness. Having a long musical tradition - both Saxon-Transilvanian based and Moldavian, with strong gipsy roots, Fanfara Transilvania (formed in Cugir, Romania) creates a mix between new and old, between the succesfull music of nowadays and the old Moldavian and Ardeal ,,hore'' or ,,doine''. They call the listener in a world that combines various cultures - the ancient Romanian village's and the city's suburbs', the one of the ''gaje's'' and the ''lautar'' gipsy comunities. With their music, 'Transilvania' steps over those differences, creating a vivid and colourful universe, where everyone can find a place.

Fanfara Transilvania performed in Piata Mare ( the "Big Square") in Sibiu, as part of the programme " Sibiu- Eureopean Capital of Culture- 2007". This highly successful performance was followed by many others : International Ethnic Festival PRO ETNICA - 2007 Sighisoara(off contest live show), National Folklore Festival 2007- Bucharest, "Taraf and Fanfare Festival"-Bucharest sept.2007, invited at "Serbs's Tavern" for a live performance in september 2007(one of the most famous live events place in Bucharest-Goran Bregovic is one of the many musicians present there), and many others famous locations across Transylvania. The 2007 Christmas & New year's Eve found them in Greece, invited to perform in Athens and Pireu(Greece) by the Athens Town Hall. In 2008 they are already invited at International Taraf And Brass Band Festival Bucharest 2008 in june , Urrban Festival Cluj 2008(Rom)at The Castle Celebration Festival Calnic 2008 in may, Trutnov Open Air Festival(Czech Republic)-august 2008, International World Of Folklore Festival - Gorizia(Italy)-august 2008(Oscar Prize for best Music Performance).
